THE DIPLOMAT (ESPN)

After the success of their groundbreaking “30 for 30” series, ESPN films commissioned some of documentary’s top female directors for a spinoff project entitled “IX for Nine.” THE DIPLOMAT, which was co-directed by Senain Kheshgi, is a non-fiction thriller about Olympic ice-skater, Katarina Witt. Known as “the most beautiful face of socialism,” Witt’s success gave her unique status in her homeland of East Germany. It also triggered constant surveillance by the Stasi, her nation’s notorious secret police.
